Gratitude By The Numbers
Performance Scorecards are not only to find opportunities to improve, but also to recognize good performance. Here’s a few snippets from the Coach Foundation on the impact of gratitude.
Regular gratitude journaling has been shown to result up to 15% increases in optimism and 25% increased sleep quality.
70% of employees would feel better about themselves if their boss were more grateful, and 81% would work harder .
88% percent of people say that expressing gratitude to colleagues makes them feel happier and more fulfilled.
The #1 reason why people leave jobs is that they don’t feel appreciated.
91% of respondents said they are also more likely to do business with companies that appreciate their customers.
Gratitude generates social capital – in two studies with 243 total participants, those who were 10% more grateful than average had 17.5% more social capital.
Two gratitude activities (counting blessings and gratitude letter writing) reduced the risk of depression in at-risk patients by 41% over a six month period.
In one six-week study, people doing a gratitude exercise worked harder at their goals and made 20% more progress toward them. This might be because gratitude makes us more energetic.
